“Mărginimea Sibiului” (Sibiu Surroundings)

The Sibiu Marginimea is one of the most picturesque areas in Romania. It includes 18 villages strung out at the foot of the Cindrel and Lotru Mountains.

It is an area where the pace of life is simple and beautiful. With its peasant farmsteads, animal-tracked trails and mountain peaks, it is an incursion into a pastoral landscape long lost in Western Europe.

As sights, in this area you will find wooden churches (Poiana Sibiului, Fântânele and Tălmăcel), village museums and memorial houses (Rășinari), a museum of icons painted on glass (Sibiel) and a museum of ethnography and church art (Fântânele), along with many impressive natural landscapes.

In 2009, it was awarded the title of European Destination of Excellence and the outstanding tourism award “Golden Apple”.
