ABOUT POIANA BRAȘOV

The first documented attestation for Poiana Brasov dates back to 1427, in the context of the shearing activities that took place here.
Poiana Brasov was founded in 1895 and in 1906 it became a ski resort and hosted the first ski competition in Romania. The first major competition held was the 9th World University Winter Games in 1951.
Poiana Brasov lies at an altitude of 1020 m, at the base of the Postavarul Massif; the highest peak is the peak with the same name, Vârful Postăvarul (popularly “Postăvaru”), with a height of 1799 m.

 

Ski Slopes in Poiana Brasov

 BRADULUI SLOPE

The trail is of low difficulty, with a total length of 430 metres and an average width of 71 metres. The difference in level is 71 metres, with the starting point at an altitude of 1106 metres and the finishing point at 1035 metres.
It is the only slope in Poina Brasov equipped with a night light installation and is very popular with beginners.
The slope is served by a ski lift and a conveyor belt for children.
Next to the Bradul slope is the departure station for the Capra Neagra cable car, and the connection to the Postavaru Express Gondola is via a trail through the forest (at the top end of the chairlift turn right through the forest to the gondola).

 

THE RED TRAIL SLOPE

It is the longest slope in Poiana Brasov, with a total length of 4752 meters and an average width of 22 meters. The slope is classified as medium to light difficulty, with a difference in level of 715 meters, starting at an altitude of 1765 meters and ending at 1050 meters.
The trail is interconnected with almost all other trails.
Access to the slope is made using: Postavaru Express Gondola, the departure station is at the bottom end of the slope; Kanzel Gondola, the departure station is next to the Express Gondola; Black Goat Gondola, departing from the Bradul slope, Ruia Chairlift, at the top turn left towards the arrival station of the gondola.
For beginners the recommendation is to use the Postavaru express cable car.

 

SULINAR SLOPE

It is a medium difficulty slope, with a total length of 2820 meters and a difference in level of 635 meters.
Access to the slope can be done using the Postavaru Express Gondola, the Kanzel Gondola, the Black Goat Gondola.
From the Sulinar slope you can reach the Drumul Roșu slope using variants 2B and 2D, and after exiting the Lehman canal, if you follow variant 2E you can reach the Bradul slope.

 

LUPULUI SLOPE

The Wolf Trail is a difficult trail with a total length of 2605m, with a difference in level of 728 meters (starting at 1703 meters and ending at 975 meters).
The Lupului slope is served by 2 ski lifts, Ruia for the upper part and Lupului for the lower part. There is no lift linking the lower and upper part. To get from the lower to the upper part, follow the 1G slope (Blue road) to the gondola departure station and from there by gondola to the upper point.
Access to the slope is by using the Postavaru Express Gondola, at the exit of the final gondola station turn right. If the ascent is made by the Capra Neagra or Kanzel cable car, access is from the Drumul Roșu slope, either directly or via the Ruia slope and the 3A variant.

 

SUBTELEFERIC SLOPE

The Subteleferic trail is a difficult trail with a total length of 2200 meters and a width of 35 meters. The difference in level is 650 metres, the starting point is at 1700 metres (at the gondola arrival station) and the end point is at the gondola departure station.
The upper part of the slope is known as the Ruia slope and is served by a ski lift of the same name. The lower part is served by the Subteleferic ski lift.
Access to the slope is by cable car, if the ascent is made by the Capra Neagra or Kanzel cable car, access is from the Red Road at the intersection with the Ruia slope.

 

KANZEL SLOPE

The Kanzel slope is a difficult slope, starting at 1760 metres and finishing at 1651 metres, with a width of 50 metres.
Access to the slope can only be made via the Black Goat cable car, the slope is served by a ski lift of the same name.

 

STADIUM SLOPE

The Stadium slope is an easy slope, designed for children and those taking their first ski lessons to learn the basic moves and practice ski lift climbing.
It has a length of 612 metres and a difference in level of 50 metres.

The price of a ski lesson with a certified instructor is between 70 lei/person per hour for groups of more than 4 people and 120 lei/person for private lessons, and does not include ski/snowboard equipment or cable transport.

HOW TO GET TO POIANA BRAȘOV?

 

Getting to Poiana Brasov by car

There are two ways to reach Poiana Brasov by car, following the national road DN 1E (Brasov-Rasnov). The first option is via Brasov, following Calea Poienii, the distance being 12 km from Livada Poștei. The second option is via Râșnov, following the direction of the Râșnov Citadel (approximately 12 km).
In Poiana Brasov there are about 400 public parking places and at accommodation establishments.
In Poiana Mică there is a modern multi-storey car park with a capacity of 434 places, the maximum height of the entrance is 2.10m. Access for LPG cars is prohibited. Payment can be made at the pay machines, located on the ground floor and basement, as well as in the access halls to the exit. The parking fee is 2.5 lei/hour, but everyone who leaves their car here, whether driver or passenger, gets free transport between the car park and the cable car station and back.

 

Getting to Poiana Brasov by Bus

Poiana Brasov can be reached by bus 20, which runs on the Livada Poștii – Parcarea Mare route. Buses depart every 20-25 minutes. The first trip departs at 6:30 on weekdays, 7:00 on weekends and public holidays, and the last trip is at 00:00. Getting to Poiana Brasov by Taxi

Travelling by taxi in Brasov is very affordable, as the taxis are visibly marked, with the fare generally displayed on the doors.
